Here are the three steps you must take when selling your home and buying a new one:

Speak to a lender. You must get pre-approved and find out how much you can afford. The lender will tell you what you’ll need for your down payment and closing costs. They’ll also explain what loan options are available to you, for your specific situation.

Talk to an agent. Do this before you even start the process. They’ll let you know how much your home is worth, go over the listing process, and break down the fees.

Put your home on the market. I recommend not starting your home search until your current home is listed. I also recommend selling first. You can rent the home back from the buyer while finding a new home. This way, when you write an offer, it won’t be contingent on selling your home. This will make your offer stronger.
